Welcome to our 2020 Plan home page

In late June 2019, Jemena Gas Networks (JGN) presented its 2020 Plan submission to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) following extensive consultation with residential and business customers, over many months, across rural and urban New South Wales.

The Plan addresses our customers’ key priorities: energy affordability, upholding safety, maintaining network reliability and preparing our gas network for the future.

Customer consultation

To ensure customers had the opportunity to influence gas distribution costs over the next five years, we arranged a series of deliberative forums commencing in 2017 through to March 2019, across the Jemena Gas Network.

Customers met with Board members, the Leadership Team, other senior managers and staff to have the opportunity to have their say on issues of affordability, reliability and the sustainability of our gas network. It was a consultative and inclusive process from beginning to end and the 2020 Draft Plan, which was made available for public consultation earlier in the year, was supported by our customers.

The above video captures some of the highlights from the reconvening of our residential customers for one final deliberative forum following the release of our Draft 2020 Plan.

Keeping costs down and planning for the future

During these consultations, customers highlighted that affordability of energy was a pressing issue, and through our proposal, we are doing our bit to bring down costs to ensure we deliver price reductions over the next 5 years.

We are also proposing to deliver more sustainable energy across our network by testing out new technologies such as the Jemena hydrogen trial in Western Sydney.

What are we proposing in the JGN 2020 Plan?

In case you don’t have time to read the full submission, here are some key highlights:

  • We will reduce network charges to lower customer bills. These reductions will lower the Jemena component of an average residential customer bill by $244 over five years. Business customers can also expect savings of around 18%.
  • We will continue providing our customers with the safe, reliable and affordable services they told us they want.
  • We will connect 135,000 new homes and businesses across New South Wales.
  • We will take appropriate actions now to improve the competitiveness of our gas network over the long-term.

The AER is expected to make a determination on our Jemena Gas Networks 2020 Plan later this year .
